I invited Breffny from Eye Flower Film to share more about his Wedding Videography services with us. He was a pleasure to work with over the summer and we recently connected again to support each other as wedding suppliers and share more info about our services.

Take it away Breffny:

Booking a wedding videographer (on top of all the other suppliers) is a total a whirlwind! This article helps those of you looking for clarity on booking wedding videographers. Three common questions are tackled here, that I have found help most couples I’ve had the pleasure of filming weddings for. Hope it helps!

Wedding Videographer

Is a wedding videographer worth it?

The main justification to have video over only having a photographer on the day, is audio. Photography won’t & shouldn’t be compared or replaced with videography. They both serve their cherishable purposes. But for those of you planning your wedding, your speeches audio, candid interactions, music of the day cannot be understated. It is here where videography earns it’s keep amongst the list of things to weigh up when booking suppliers for your big day. Now of course I’m bias. Video is the one thing I am most passionate about. But I’ll put it like this, if you had the opportunity to be able to listen back on the speeches that made you cry, the audio visuals of when you said yes to your partner at the ceremony, would you pay for that? For those who want to genuinely relive each of the moments of your most important day, videography has genuine value. Not to mention that it’s the one thing most couples regret not having in retrospect. It's something to consider with your partner & more importantly budget (more on that below!).

What should I look for in a wedding videographer?

If you do see the value in being able to relive your special day, my two cents to you would be to focus not so much on how good the equipment is or how fancy the films are with any given videographer. I would implore you to ask “How is their personality?, how are they as a human?”. This person is around you for the whole day, more than your partner in fact, so make sure your on the same wavelength. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have witnessed suppliers & couples not connecting. You want to be able to relax & feel yourself, the right supplier for you will do that. So look at their socials, speak to them on an introduction call. This, in my humble opinion as a wedding videography business owner.

Is there really a difference in the quality between a 1500€ videographer & a 4000€ videographer?

The short answer is…. No. The final deliverable of what 99% of videographers offer is the same. A polished documentation of your wedding day as a HD film. So what are you actually paying for? You are paying for the combination of the following: Years of experience, videographer demand & the target market niche that supplier focuses on. The more years videographers have in the game the higher they are entitled to charge. This is fair. The social credibility (follower count, amount of yearly enquiries) that videographers have often allows them charging higher rates. Finally, many videographers price the way they do to target the luxury market. It is after all a business and just like some people buy a 300€ t-shirt, people also like paying for fancy films! If staying in budget is important to you, I’d recommend finding a reasonable human being with fair transparent pricing. These types of people, who are present on social media & forth coming about how they charge for their work are the best of both worlds.

Good luck with the planning!
